To keep your device up to date with the latest features and improvements, it is important to update the software as updates become available. Follow the steps below to update the software on your device.
Step 1: Download the Software Update
- Download the latest software update file with the .swu extension to your computer.
- Make sure to remember the location where you saved the downloaded file.
Note that you can check the software version your device is running by navigating to the System Info page and noting the version number:
Step 2: Select your update method
The BugCount Guardian software can be updated using two different methods: 1) remote updates over a VPN connection, or 2) wired updates using a direct Ethernet connection between your PC and the Guardian device's router.
Method 1: Updating Remotely via VPN
- Connect your computer to the internet.
- Use Open VPN to establish a connection to the network where your device is located. Please refer to the InHand Model Setup Guide for assistance.
- Once the VPN connection is established, open a web browser.
- Enter the virtual IP address of your device plus “:8080” in the address bar of the web browser. Example: “10.XX.XX.1:8080”
- You will be redirected to the device's update page.
- On the update page, locate the designated box for software updates:
- Drag and drop the previously downloaded .swu file into the designated box.
- Wait for the update process to complete. Remote updates may take more than 20 minutes to finish, depending on your network speed and the size of the software update file.
- Once the update is completed, the device will restart automatically.
Method 2: Updating via Direct Connection
- Remove the cover panel from the electronics cabinet to access the modem.
- Connect your computer to the device using an Ethernet cable. Plug one end of the cable into the Ethernet port on your computer and the other end into an empty LAN port the device's router.
- Open a web browser on your computer.
- Enter the virtual IP address of your device plus “:8080” in the address bar of the web browser. Example: “10.XX.XX.1:8080”
- You will be redirected to the device's update page.
- On the update page, locate the designated box for software updates.
- Drag and drop the previously downloaded .swu file into the designated box.
- Wait for the update process to complete. Direct connection updates typically take less than 3 minutes to complete.
- Once the update is completed, the device will restart automatically. At this time the ethernet cable can be disconnected and the cover panel from the electronics cabinet can be reinstalled.
- The device will have to be power cycled after the cover panel is attached and the BCG door is closed to reset the calibration. To do so turn off the device using the master power switch on the left external side of the enclosure. When you see the touchscreen turn off you can use the same master switch to turn the unit back on.
Note: It is important not to interrupt the update process or power off the device during the software update. Doing so may result in software corruption or device malfunction.
