Label the Swab
Clearly label the swab with the sample information before starting.

Prepare the Swab
Unscrew the cap from the swab tube. Press the swab tip gently against the inside of the tube to remove any excess liquid.

Collect the Sample
Press down firmly against the surface to ensure the swab tip makes full contact with the sample surface.

Swab the Surface
Rotate the swab while swabbing to ensure the entire tip makes contact with the surface.
If swabbing a flat surface, change direction by 90° and repeat the swabbing process.

Secure the Sample
After swabbing, insert the swab head back into the tube and tighten the cap securely.

Using Sponges
- Touch only the outside of the bag to guide the sponge upward until the handle can be grasped.
- Swab the desired area using the same method as the swab instructions (Steps 3 and 4)
- Place the sponge back into the bag. Holding the sponge from outside the bag, snap off the handle where it inserts into the sponge.

Shipping the Samples
- After sampling, place the swabs or sponge into a cooler with ice packs.
- Ensure that the temperature upon arrival at Impact Microbiological Services is 10°C or lower.
- If same-day submission is not possible, refrigerate the samples.
- Swabs/Sponges must be received by Impact Microbiology Services within:
- 48 hours after swabbing, or
- 72 hours if using swabs/sponges containing Hi-Cap Neutralizing Broth.
