Sample Bottles
- IMS provides sterile water bottles containing a sodium thiosulfate pill for dechlorination upon request. Contact lab@impactmicrobiology.com to request bottles ahead of sampling.
- If you are sampling unchlorinated water, you may carefully remove the pill before sampling.
Sampling Instructions
1. Prepare the Sampling Location
- Remove any attachments from the faucet.
- Open the tap fully and flush cold water for 2-3 minutes.
2. Prepare the Sample Bottle
- Reduce the water flow to prevent splashing while filling.
- Keep the sterile sample bottle sealed until you are ready to collect the sample. This is to avoid sample contaminations.
3. Collect the Sample
- Label the bottle with sample information before filling.
- Open the cover carefully, without touching the inside of the bottle.
- Fill the bottle to the fill line.
- If using your own sample bottle, ensure you collect at least 100 mL.
- Note: If testing melted ice, use a larger bottle to ensure 100 mL is collected once melted.
4. Secure and Store the Sample
- Replace the bottle cap immediately after filling.
- Record all all necessary information on the provided sample submission form.
- Store the sample in a refrigerator or cooler with ice packs.
5. Ship the Sample
- Submit samples to the lab within 48 hours after sampling.
- Upon arrival at the lab, samples should be 10°C or colder.
