Testing workflow changes to QGOM → Bugcount® Fluids - Effective April 22, 2026

As part of our product update effective January 1, 2026, the QuenchGone Organic Modified (QGOM) ATP test kit is being rebranded to Bugcount Fluids, and the test method has been refined.

 What’s changed

1. Kit name & branding

  • Old name: QuenchGone Organic Modified (QGOM)
  • New name: Bugcount Fluids

The kit packaging, labels, documentation, and online help will reflect the new Bugcount naming and unified ATP product structure.

2. Background measurement sequence

In Bugcount Fluids, the Background measurement is taken earlier in the method — immediately after rehydrating Luminase® and before calibration. This is a sequencing update only; the background measurement itself, calculation, and interpretation are unchanged.

3. Method simplification: syringe use

The test procedure has been optimized so that only the 50 mL syringe is required throughout the filtration process, instead of previously using a separate 20 mL syringe for washing. This removes one component from the kit and simplifies the workflow. 

Note: The 50 mL syringe included in Bugcount Fluids is made of polypropylene with a neoprene plunger seal (PP/neoprene) and is not intended for fuel samples. 

4. Update to instructions

Bugcount Fluids instructions reflect updated naming, the earlier background measurement, and a simplified single-syringe workflow. Aside from these sequencing and component updates, the ATP testing process and results are consistent with QGOM.

QGOM vs. Bugcount Fluids: Method comparison

The table compares the old QGOM and new Bugcount Fluids test methods and shows that rehydrating Luminase is unchanged in both kits, the background measurement is performed before the assay step in QGOM but earlier in the workflow before the calibration step in Bugcount Fluids, filtration is done using a 20 mL syringe in QGOM and a 50 mL syringe in Bugcount Fluids, washing and drying in QGOM require washing with a 20 mL syringe and drying with a 50 mL syringe while Bugcount Fluids uses a single 50 mL syringe for both washing and drying, and the extraction, assay, and analysis steps remain the same for both methods.

What’s not changing

  • Test technology and performance: The ATP chemistry and measurement accuracy are the same. 
  • Analyzer compatibility: Works with your existing Luminultra luminometer. 
  • Results & calibration: Results interpretation and integration with Relay™ are unchanged.

Why this update is happening

This update streamlines our product lineup and documentation under the Bugcount family, improves consistency across kits, and simplifies the physical kit by removing the 20 mL syringe while keeping your testing process and results fully comparable.
