When to Use a Stopping Point
When running the full ATP test in a single session isn’t feasible, extracted ATP can be stored for later analysis. Storing samples in UltraLute or UltraLyse has been shown to maintain stability and produce reliable results, making it a practical option when immediate testing isn’t possible.
Storing Extracted ATP Samples
Reagents: Use UltraLute or UltraLyse to store extracted ATP.
Storage Conditions:
Keeping the extracted ATP sample in the fridge or at room temperature has been shown to maintain good stability.
Note: Raw (unextracted) samples are not stable and may show fluctuating microbial loads, especially in warm conditions. Always extract ATP before storing when possible.
Recommended Workflow
Collect Sample: Gather your raw sample according to standard procedures.
Extract ATP: Follow your test kit instructions to extract the ATP. Once the sample is transferred into UltraLyse or UltraLute, it can remain stored in the reagent until testing.
Optional Storage: If you cannot run the luminometer immediately, store the extracted ATP:
Refrigerated (up to 7 days)
Room Temperature (up to 7 days)
Analyze: Run the remainder of the test within the storage window to ensure consistent results. If the sample has been stored in the refrigerator, allow it to return to room temperature before testing.
